The faithful God!
But certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the
voice of my prayer. Psalm 66:19
The hymnist has experienced and can testify that the Lord has
granted his prayer and about His intervene.
It is also many a Christian that can do the same - not at least
about that acceptance of prayer and that intervene that is shown in the
very fact that you have become a Christian!
- But also in the many concrete things in life.
In any case, this will be an exclamation that one day will have
come from every believers lips, that is when they in the eternity are
seeing and experiencing exactly this, that «certainly
God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer!»
So you must not think, that you have prayed to Him in vain, that
you have pinned your hope on Him in vain. - Then you offend Him, and
thinks and mean right against the promises and the assurances He has
given unto you - namely that He will certainly not cast out the one who
comes to Him (John 6:37), and will give you what you ask Him for in His
name! (John 14:13-14).
If you have asked Him for grace and salvation - yes, then you have
also got what the Word assures you of - it even laid ready for you
before you came and asked Him for it! - And then you shall not wander
about in disbelief, but rather start thanking Him for the gift that is
handed over to all people, even if your heart feels cold and dead like a
stone!
It is not that easy this, we usually say then - and that is true -
but it is caused by our inborn sin and disbelief this, that we have so
little confidence in Him! - And you shall not try to get this heart to
be different, because that is stillborn project, but you are allowed to
sing with the singer: «Yes, your Word tells me that, That grace I shall
get, That my sin you wont remember no more. Your blessed blood Gives me
mercy and heart To believe that my bridegroom you are.» (From Norw.
songbook).
