Yearn for Him!
This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who
seek Your face--even Jacob. Psalm 24:6
We read about these in the Scripture: «All
Your holy ones are in Your hand, And they followed in Your steps;
Everyone receives of Your words.» (Deut. 33:3).
They receives of His words,
that characterizes them. And that - as James writes - because:
«In the exercise of His will He brought them forth by the word of
truth!» (Jam. 1:18). And then it is also where they seek His face
above all, since it was there He met them the first time. - They
followed in His steps (lay at His feet (Norw. transl.): Prayer -
receives of His words: The Word!
No one is saved, or gain a better relationship with God, because
they read in the Word of God and prays - that is, because of this "piece
of work," but because then they have come to and drinks of the
fountain!
It shines through in our text exactly this - they asks for Him!
- They seek His face! It is He Himself who have become their
hearts treasure! «Jesus I must
own!»
Therefore, this is not anything that has its reason in my piety,
but on the contrary in the need caused by missing exactly that! It is
lost sinners who asks for Him, because that is precisely what He is - a
saviour for sinners!
One can on the one hand speak slightingly about reading the Bible
and prayer, and justly, when it is something that first of all is a
result av the old selfs self-righteous essence - one wishes reward for
the work that has been done! - But on the other hand, one must not
forget that it is also something God wants to find with a Christian, and
that it is an urge of the Spirit.
We are born by this Word, and is over and over again helped by this
Word on our journey here. That is also why we seek it, either we feel
inclined to it or not, because we have acknowledged and experienced that
life is revealed to us there.
It is not without significance to your Christian life whether you
neglect Bible and prayer - that you must bear in mind! «This
is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face--even Jacob.»
Jesus has asked us to come! - And that is because He has something
to give you - something to say to you!
