For whatever was written in earlier times was written
for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement
of the Scriptures we might have hope. Rom. 15:4
In the letter to the Hebrews we read this concerning the patience:
«For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of
God, you may receive what was promised.» (Heb. 10:36). There is
something following this, to do the will of God - which simply is
to believe in the one He has sent, Jesus Christ. It will be a fight with
forces both within and around you, that you did not even had a
presentiment of existed before.
In another passage, the same author talks about to «run with
endurance the race that is set before us» here on earth, «fixing our
eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.»
Endurance is accordingly a very important thing in a Christians
life. Without it we will give up and yield to the forces against, before
the final goal is reached. That is why Gods promises is written down, so
that we might have hope through the
perseverance and encouragement they
give!
It (the
Scripture) is giving this to us! We cannot take this endurance, but it
grows there where a believer sticks to the Word of God, the comfort it
is giving in the midst of the battle, and in the midst of a fall.
Marvellous God! - So all in His kingdom is gift! It is there ready
for you in the Scriptures, so be therefore a diligent «reader.» (The
Christian laity of Norway was formerly called «the readers.»
The Lord knows that our defeats will be many through the years, and
the really awaken sees, that they will be more than one can count! Then
it is need for endurance!
You shall not stick to what you see, when it comes to yourself and
your own life in the heat of the struggle - all this that can spring
forth from our old self - because then you will lose courage and with
that the faith, but you shall stick to the Word, to the promises of God,
and His faithfulness!
You must always remember that the promises of God are attached to
concrete act - He lived and He died for you!
