For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly. Rom. 5:6

The lifelong struggle!

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Rom. 8:6

This is not the same as that the flesh desires death like a suicide does, because then most people would step back and seek salvation from it - but it seeks, and shows what is leading to death for us, in a wonderful light! It makes it desirable to us, and without risk.
The thing that in reality is the deadly with the mind set on the flesh is, that it desires the life away from God. It seeks all other things than the Savior - yes, has a hostile attitude towards Him and His way, and desires what is of this world.
But the mind set on the Spirit on the contrary, is life and peace! You see, that these two, flesh and Spirit, draws in two completely different directions, and there is absolutely no harmony, no place where they agree!
But then, what does it mean that the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace? Jesus is revealing that to us, as He calls attention to the Spirits foremost task here on earth: «He (the Spirit) will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.» (John 16:14)
He leads us to, and glorifies Him who are life and peace! - He who are our life and our peace! - This is what the Spirit desires! So lay your life in His hand today, with confidence! You cannot find the way to a true relationship to, and a right understanding of Jesus and His work. - You cannot think, speculate and understand yourself unto Him, but you can ask Him that the mind set on the Spirit must win! That is why He has come - to give you what you never can reach by your own help and power!
It is the case when a human being is meeting Jesus for the first time, and it is the case when it comes to being kept with Him. It becomes a lifelong struggle between these two desires - that we must never forget!
